Grandmother Tricks Speeding Drivers By Pointing Her Hairdryer At Them

Granny get your (speed) gun! Grandmother has ingenious trick to slow down speeding drivers by pointing her hairdryer at them.

A grandmother of four has become an internet sensation, thanks to a video of her using a hairdryer to fool speeding drivers into slowing down.

Jean Brooks,  64, from Nottingham, has racked up more than 12 million views with a video filmed for the BBC of her unique idea to improve safety on her street.

Her neighbours claim they have noticed a remarkable difference since she started holding a hairdryer over her garden fence.

Speaking to the Nottingham Post, Ms Brooks said she had come up with the idea, after a family tragedy.
She had created a cafe in her front garden at home in Hucknall to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care, following the death of her son in-law.

While spending time doing this, she noticed cars speeding along the road. A friend told her about an idea originating in France, where someone had pointed their hairdryer at cars to slow them down.

She explained: 'This street is the main road onto the estate so it is busy, and it's also used as a school drop off point.

'They come up on their scooters and quadbikes showing off to the sixth form girls, acting like a male bird of paradise.

It's all, 'look no hands' but it will soon be 'look, no teeth'.

Speaking on the video for BBC Nottingham, Ms Brooks said: 'Quite simply, by picking up one of these and going like that, I have never seen so many people's brake lights go on - and all it is, is a hairdryer.

'If they don't like it, that's tough. I live here, my friends live here, my friend's children live here and if we can't be safe in our own street, where the hell are we going to be safe in the world?' Daily Mail reports.

In his words "Sadiq Khan, who by all accounts has done a terrible job as Mayor of London, has been foolishly “nasty” to the visiting President of the United States, by far the most important ally of the United Kingdom. He is a stone cold loser who should focus on crime in London, not me"

He ranked the London Mayor same with that of New York City
"Kahn reminds me very much of our very dumb and incompetent Mayor of NYC, De Blasio, who has also done a terrible job - only half his height. In any event, I look forward to being a great friend to the United Kingdom, and am looking very much forward to my visit. Landing now!" He concluded.

400 CSOs Urge National Assembly To Adopt Open Voting System

The Transition Monitoring Group, a civil society organization comprising over 400 CSOs has asked the  National Assembly to make use of an open-ballot system in the selection of leadership for the ninth assembly.

Abiola Akiyode, who spoke for TMG in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, said the use of the open-ballot system would synchronize with the democracy being practiced in the country.

She noted that the open-ballot system is the most acceptable form of election in popular democracy and should be employed when electing the next leader of the national assembly.

She said, “The popular democracy everywhere is open ballot system. Normally, people should be able to vote and be able to stand with their votes and everybody should have the right to vote and be voted for. So, I think the open ballot system would have been the most ideal election".

Akiyode, however, noted that the political landscape of the country might make the lawmakers prefer secret voting, explaining that it could “pose a danger to the future relationship with the colleagues".

The election of the leadership of the ninth national assembly has been at the forefront of issues in the country.

APC  has presented its candidates and is keen on averting a repeat of the leadership crisis in 2015.
