Buhari is dead and buried Nnamdi Kanu insist

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB Mazi Nnadi Kanu today on a radio broadcast from Israel stated clearly that he stands on his position. Kanu said Buhari has died since last year and was buried in Saudi Arabia. The Biafran leader said the current president of Nigeria is from Saudi Arabia by name Jubril.

Reinforcing his claims, he said come next month that he will provide all evidence needed to nail the president of Nigeria as an impostor.

In his speech, he claimed the certificate issues with the INEC is a plan to disqualify the Nigerian from contesting so as to gradually withdraw him and send him back to Saudi Arabia.
It would be recalled that  Kanu made the same allegation before the Python dance that lead to his disappearance last year October.

INEC rules out e-Voting in 2019, says time too short

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has ruled out the possibility of implementing all the provisions of the amended Electoral Act, if given Presidential assent, particularly as they relate to electronic voting.

“We have gone really far with this. If tomorrow the bill is assented to, there are provisions that we can immediately implement but there are provisions that we cannot implement simply because of time. For instance, full blown electronic voting. It is impossible within the time-frame available which is 112 days.
We have been working closely with the National Assembly and many of the new provisions passed in the bill were actually based on our recommendations. We prepared ourselves in such a way that in case some of the provisions become law, we would have no difficulty in implementing them,” said INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu. He said only 79 out of the 89 political parties participating in the elections had presidential candidates. Nigeria currently has 91 registered political parties. Prof. Yakubu who announced this while giving an update on the nationwide ongoing publication of details of candidates for the next general elections, noted that while 1,803 candidates would vie for the 109 seats in the Senate, 4, 548 would be vying for the 360 House of Representatives seats. According to him, the commission would between 6th and 12th November, publish the National Register of Voters nationwide to allow Nigerians file claims and objections in line with Section 20 of the Electoral Act as amended.

Meanwhile, INEC has disclosed that it did not receive any list of candidates from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for Zamfara state. The Commission had earlier barred the ruling party from fielding candidates for elections in the state, having run foul of the guidelines for the conduct of political party primaries. He said although the matter had become a subject of three lawsuits, the commission would await the outcome of the judgements before taking any further decision on the matter. “INEC did not receive any submission of candidates of APC from Zamfara state. Beyond that, I won’t say more because the matter is in court. Once a matter is in court, by our culture, you do not comment on it. There are three  cases on the matter. So, we will wait for the court to determine,” he explained. On the disqualification of APC from fielding candidates in Rivers state,  INEC Chairman said the commission was waiting for details of the apex court ruling before determining its next line of action. He said further: “I wish to provide further clarification on the ongoing publication of the personal particulars of candidates. Each candidate nominated by a political party is required to provide details of his/her personal particulars by personally completing the form CF001 and to swear an affidavit at the Federal High Court, a High Court of a State or the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Within seven (7) days from the close of submission of these documents, the Commission is required to publish the form in the constituencies that candidates seek to represent as required by Section 31(3) of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended). This will give the general public the opportunity to view the affidavit of personal particulars of those who aspire to represent them. Any person with reasonable ground to believe that any information on form CF001 submitted by a candidate contains incorrect or false claims is at liberty to file an action against such candidate at the Federal High Court or the High Court of a State or the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). While the current exercise is limited to candidates for presidential and National Assembly elections, the personal particulars of those contesting in Governorship and State Assembly elections will be similarly published on November 9,2018, one week after the close of submission of nominations by political parties. “I wish to appeal to the general public to seize this opportunity to view the personal details of the candidates that seek to represent them. The forms, as completed on oath by the candidates and submitted to the Commission by their political parties, are photocopied and pasted in our State and Local Government offices nationwide. This is an opportunity for citizens to ascertain the personal details of the candidates to enable them take informed decisions on election day or even initiate legal action against candidates who they believe have made false claims on their forms.

Still as part of the ongoing preparations for the 2019 general elections, I wish to announce in advance that the register of voters for each polling unit will be displayed at the polling units nationwide for one week from  November 6 to12, 2018, for claims and objections by citizens in accordance with the provision of Section 20 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended). “Although the Commission has dutifully cleaned up the register using the Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS); it is the right of citizens under the law to examine the register and exercise their civic duty by drawing the attention of the Commission to the prevalence of any ineligible persons so that together we can further clean it up. For emphasis, eligibility to register and vote in Nigeria is open only to citizens who have attained the mandatory age of eighteen (18) years and resident in the places they registered. Such citizens must also not register more than once. The Commission will also appreciate the assistance of citizens in identifying deceased persons on the register so that such names can be nulled from our record. It is also an opportunity to correct misspellings of personal details such as names, age and gender. “I wish to once again place on record that the voter register is robust. It is also the largest data base of citizens in Nigeria containing names, photographs and biometric details. It is a national asset that should be protected and perfected. Ownership of the register by citizens and their involvement in cleaning it up is crucial to our electoral process. I urge citizens to help the Commission during the display. Full details of the procedure for collecting citizens’ observations will be released shortly

New Bye-elections “Recently, the Commission received declaration of vacancies that require us to conduct bye-elections. Following the election of two serving members of the House of Representatives as Senators in bye-elections conducted on 11 August 2018, the Honourable Speaker has declared consequential vacancies in the Toro Federal Constituency in Bauchi State and the Kankia/Kusada/Ingawa Federal Constituency in Katsina State. Similarly, the Cross River State House of Assembly has declared vacancy in Ikom II State Constituency following the death of the member representing the Constituency. Consequently, the Commission will conduct bye-elections in the three (3) constituencies. We have directed our Resident Electoral Commissioners in Bauchi, Katsina and Cross River States to convene stakeholders meetings immediately and prepare for the bye-elections latest by Saturday 17th November 2018. Detailed timetable and schedule of activities for the bye-elections will be released on Tuesday next week. “The Commission wishes to reassure Nigerians that preparations for the 2019 General Elections are proceeding in earnest and according to the detailed timetable and schedule of activities released by the Commission. It is exactly 112 days to the elections. We shall continue to faithfully and consistently implement the timetable and other activities ", he added.

Gaza Rockets Hit Israel

Members of the Palestinian civil defence search through the rubble of a building following an Israeli air strike on Gaza City.

A barrage of rockets from Gaza hit Israel during the night, the army said Saturday, hours after five Palestinians were killed during clashes on the Israeli border, in a flare-up that could jeopardise truce efforts.

The largest projectile attacks in months and the border fatalities came despite talk of progress towards an Egyptian-brokered deal to end months of often violent protests along the border.

“Overnight, dozens of rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip at communities in southern Israel,” the army said in a statement, putting the exact number in a separate announcement at 30.

“The IDF’s Iron Dome aerial defence system intercepted approximately 10 projectiles,” the army said, adding that two rockets fell within the Gaza Strip while the others landed in “open areas”.

Israeli medics said seven civilians were being treated for shock.

In response to the rockets, Israeli fighter jets, helicopters and drones struck “approximately 80 Hamas targets throughout the Gaza Strip”.

There were no reports of Gaza casualties as a result of the strikes.

Hamas, the militant Islamist rulers of Gaza, did not claim responsibility for the rockets, but Israel holds it responsible for any launches from the coastal enclave.

“The rocket fire is conducted in a terror-filled atmosphere which is generated by Hamas in the area of the security fence and in acts such as tonight’s events,” the army said.

Islamic Jihad, the second largest militant group in Gaza, hailed the rocket fire in a statement as a response to “Israeli aggressions”, stopping short however of directly claiming responsibility for the launches.

A Hamas official said that following the escalation Egypt was again seeking to negotiate a return to calm.

Earlier, five Palestinians aged between 22 and 27 died in separate incidents along the border fence, the Gaza health ministry said.

The army did not comment on the deaths but said around 16,000 “rioters and demonstrators” had gathered along the border, with some setting tyres alight and hurling rocks, firebombs and grenades towards soldiers.

Troops responded with “riot dispersal means”, a spokesman added.

Three of the men were shot dead east of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, while one was killed east of Jabalia in the north of the coastal territory, the health ministry said.

A fifth man died east of Bureij in central Gaza when a hand grenade he was holding exploded accidentally, witnesses said.

Palestinians have gathered for protests along the Gaza Strip’s border at least weekly since March 30.

At least 212 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in Gaza since the protests began, according to figures collated by AFP.

The majority have died during protests, while smaller numbers have been killed by airstrikes and tank fire.

One Israeli soldier was shot dead by a Palestinian sniper along the border in the same period.

The protesters are calling to be allowed to return to lands their families fled or were expelled from in a 1948 war surrounding the creation of Israel and which are now inside the Jewish state.

They are also protesting over Israel’s crippling blockade of Gaza.

Israel accuses Hamas of orchestrating the often violent demonstrations.

Israel and Hamas have fought three wars since 2008 and much of the international community considers the Islamist movement a terrorist organisation.

– Truce deal at risk –
The fresh violence could also scupper hopes of a deal to end the months of protests.

Egypt and the United Nations have been brokering indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel with the aim of calming the situation amid fears of another war.

Last week, a rocket fired from Gaza hit an Israeli home, narrowly avoiding killing a family. In response, the Israeli army carried out air strikes on around 20 Hamas targets in Gaza.

The London-based Arabic newspaper Al-Hayat reported Friday that a deal had been reached that would see the protests end in exchange for an easing of Israel’s blockade.

Hamas officials denied a deal had been struck but confirmed to AFP that progress was being made.

“We expect to reach an agreement very soon,” a senior Hamas official said earlier Friday on condition of anonymity.

Israel also fully reopened its border crossings with the Gaza Strip this week following a week of relative calm.

It allowed dozens of trucks of fuel paid for by Qatar into the strip, having previously banned their entry in response to the border violence.

Israel says the decade-long blockade is necessary to isolate Hamas, while critics say it amounts to collective punishment of Gaza’s two million residents.

Man crashed in Sapele river while flying from Benin to UK

A man, who confessed to newsmen that he was ‘flying’ from Benin Airport, Edo State, to attend a meeting in the United Kingdom, before watching a football match going on simultaneously in the coven, also in the United Kingdom, was, yesterday, discovered at Ajogodo River, Sapele, Delta State.

The self-confessed wizard said: “I was flying in with what is known in the physical realm as ‘Plantain Leaf,’ but it is actually my expensive private jet in the coven realm. “It crashed me into this bridge, when the fuel in it finished. My members will be here tonight to refuel it for me, so I can continue my journey to the UK. “I have to be in the UK to watch football, because there is economic recession, unemployment and inflation in Nigeria".

South Eastern governors to rebuild Nnamdi Kanu father's house

News reaching us has  it that 5 state governors in South East region of Nigeria, are planning to rebuild the palace of  the father of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Following this, no fewer than five pro Biafra groups  yesterday commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State for his assurance that the South East governors would rebuild the palace of the monarch which was damaged by the Nigerian Army during an attack on the fugitive IPOB leader some months ago.

In a statement issued in Abakaliki and signed by Comrade Emeka Ibekwe for Biafra Independence Organization; Comrade Philip Umenna for Igbo Revolutionary Movement; Comrade Sunday James Achu for Eastern Peoples Renewal; Rev Kingsley Olisa for Biafra Clergy Network; and Comrade Victor Akpanaka for Biafra Security Network, the groups further appealed for close relationship among Ndigbo and other ethnic nationalities in Igbo land. They said: “The leadership of five pro Biafra groups met yesterday and resolved to work and promote a conscious brotherhood and synergy among all pro Biafra agitators.” The groups  commended the Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for his assurance that the southeast governors will rebuild the palace of the father of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu which was damaged by the Nigerian Army. They also appealed for close relationship among Ndigbo and other ethnic nationalities in Biafra land. “We agreed to work together as one family in unison with other pro Biafra groups that could not attend our meeting. “Pro-Biafra groups should intensify   efforts in grassroot sensitisation and mobilisations for greater home awareness of Biafra referendum that will determine the acceptability of Biafra by the people of Biafra. “Pro-Biafra groups should explore every necessary means, including political, economical and religious means for effective actualisation and restoration of sovereign state of Biafra. We shall be involved in the  political determinations of governance of our region. We shall be stakeholders in electing, deciding and establishing a Biafra- oriented political force that will not be a stooge in national assembly and state governments.”

Meantime, a different coalition of pro-Biafra groups has rejected the declaration, purportedly made by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu in Jerusalem, Israel, earlier this week. The coalition which included  the Movement for Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, among other Biafra agitating groups said that whereas they were happy to hear that Kanu was still alive, they however took exception to issues raised by the IPOB leader in his purported speech, particularly on his re-declaration of Biafra Republic. Rising from a meeting in Enugu yesterday, the coalition leaders which included Uchenna Madu of MASSOB; Okey Orji of Eastern Peoples Congress; Innocent Amadi of Billie Human Rights Initiative; Eberechukwu Anigbogu of Movement of Biafrans In Nigeria, among others urged Ndigbo to disregard Kanu and keep calm. In their common statement after the meeting, the coalition said it has fully analysed Kanu’s   address to the world and wish to react that the purported declaration of the Republic of Biafra by Nnamdi Kanu was a gross abuse of history. “We cannot understand how the Republic of Biafra that was declared in 1967 by Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu after due consultations  and approval by the elders and leaders of Biafra land can be declared again. “We make bold to say that Biafra had existed as an independent nation for three years. It is important to remind the entire world that the Nigeria- Biafra civil war (1967 — 1970) ended on the note of ‘no victor, no vanquished.’ “Nnamdi Kanu has neither the authority of Ndigbo nor the capacity to declare a republic for the Igbo nation. His address is an over statement. “The coalition insists that Biafra is the property of the entire Biafra people which no single person, no matter how highly placed, has the right to unilaterally decide her faith.” It also recalled that in 2012, the Supreme Council of Elders of the Indigenous People of Biafra mandated BILIE Human Rights Initiatives, an international human rights oganisation to sue the Federal Government of Nigeria on behalf of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra.

Heartbreaking: Baby dies after contracting herpes from a KISS from her mother which 'ate her lungs and brain

Aliza Rose Friend was just eight days old when she passed away after developing neonatal herpes from the HSV-1 virus.

Her mother Abigail, 19, claims Aliza was healthy for the first 36 hours of her life before she developed a fever, became lethargic and lost any interest in food.

The newborn quickly deteriorated as the disease 'ate her lungs and brain', leaving her struggling to breathe and suffering seizures.

After doctors told Miss Friend and her partner Tyler Hensley, 26, there was 'real hope' Aliza would make it, she was declared brain dead on May 20 and medics turned off her life-support.

They later told Miss Friend, from Oakland, Maryland, her daughter likely caught the infection after being kissed by someone with the virus, which typically manifests as a cold sore.

In a Facebook post that has gathered more than 500,000 responses, she wrote: 'WASH YOUR HANDS. DO NOT KISS BABIES.'

There's not a moment goes by that I don't think about her. She's in my thoughts every day,' Miss Friend said.

Although doctors have told Miss Friend her daughter became unwell from a kiss, or after being touched by unwashed, contaminated hands, there is no way of telling who passed the virus on.

Location of the 1.6 billion dollar Mega Million jackpot winner identified

At a small store off a two-lane road in rural South Carolina, "lightning struck," the excited mayor of Simpsonville said Wednesday.
Mayor Janice Curtis said she found out from a reporter that the winning ticket in the $1.537 billion Mega Millions drawing had been sold in her town.
According to the mayor, the journalist asked, "How do you feel about this happening in little ol' Simpsonville?' And I about fell out. I had no idea. Can you believe it? One ticket! Here!"

Simpsonville is the kind of town where farm fields are giving way to housing developers. The city grew from 18,000 to 22,000 people as the Greenville suburbs encroached over the past seven years.
The mayor loves her residents.
"We are such a warm community, if someone needs something, we are there," she said. "If someone needs celebrating, and this is certainly an occasion to celebrate, we are there."
Lottery officials have given no details about the person who bought the winning ticket, whether they live in Simpsonville or were just passing by the KC Mart #7 and decided to stop.
The mart, with its six gas pumps, is an out-of-the way crossroads far from the interstate and used by locals headed home or to work.
People flocked to the store Wednesday to take pictures with the owner, or to see whether lightning will strike twice by buying tickets for the $620 million Powerball drawing.
Owner CJ Patel was shaking and had goose bumps as he absorbed the news that his establishment had sold the winning ticket, he told CNN affiliate WYFF in Greenville.
Patel's store gets $50,000 for selling the ticket, and he said he'll "do some good with that money."
As for the ticket holder?
"Whoever the winner is hopefully spends that money locally and (does) some good stuff for the community," Patel said.

BBC looses a record half a million listeners

Chris Evans' BBC Radio 2 breakfast show has registered its lowest audience since 2012 after losing more than half a million listeners over the past year.

Evans had 8.9 million weekly listeners between July and September - down from 9.4 million during the same period in 2017, according to industry body Rajar.

Evans is leaving at the end of this year, with Zoe Ball taking over.

Radio 2 also notched up its lowest overall figures for six years, with 14.6 million weekly listeners.

That's down from 15.4 million at the same time last year.
Lewis Carnie, Head of Radio 2 said: "I'm proud that BBC Radio 2 remains the most listened to radio station in the UK, with 14.64 million listeners each week."

The figures come at a time of upheaval for the station. Jo Whiley joined Simon Mayo as a host of the Drivetime programme in May.

The move was unpopular with listeners, however, and and earlier this week Radio 2 announced the partnership would be ending.

Mayo is leaving the station altogether, while Whiley is returning to a specialist music evening slot. The new Drivetime host has not yet been announced.

Elsewhere in the Rajar figures, Radio 1 has gained around 350,000 listeners since the previous quarter, following its decision to extend the weekend schedule to cover Fridays.

BBC Radio 4's Today programme dropped slightly to 6.7 million listeners, but there was better news for 5 Live's breakfast show, hosted by Nicky Campbell and Rachel Burden.

They added 259,000 listeners on the second three months of the year to pull their listening figures back up above two million.
