Cumberland county man drowns.

A man’s body was found in a trailer on Riverland Drive in the Cedar Creek community, said Lt. Sean Swain, a spokesman for the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Swain said deputies and rescue workers could see the body through the window but could not retrieve him because of the swift water surrounding the trailer, which is off Tabor Church Road near the Cape Fear River.

First responders went to the area late Tuesday looking for a body reported to be there, Cumberland County spokeswoman Sally Shutt said.

The search team included the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, EMS, the Cedar Creek Fire Department, city and county boats and a FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Task Force Team from New York, officials said.

Swain said Wednesday that deputies went to the man’s home earlier to tell him about a mandatory evacuation. He said the man refused to leave.

A positive identification has not yet been made, Swain said. Swain said the trailer is full of water.
